What to expect at rehearsals

The building we rehearse in can be quite cold during the winter, so please think about wearing layers. We suggest you wear flat shoes as high heels may affect your stance when singing. Entrance to the building is via the side door by the car park, then the first door on the right will bring you into the church. There are no steps involved and there is a loo!

We usually stop for a break during the evening, and although there is a kitchen available, we tend to bring our own drinks, or more commonly bring a bottle of water. Pencils are always useful to make notes on your score.

Becoming a member

You don’t have to be able to read music – a few of our existing members don’t. Teach tracks (a vocal recording of each part) are almost always available, your Section Leader is there to help, and support is available from other members (‘note bashers’!) who are happy to help on a one-to-one basis or in small groups outside the main rehearsals. 

If you decide you want to join, our Musical Director will assess which part will best suit your voice and you’ll be asked to learn a 4-part song. You’ll then sing this with 3 members of the choir singing the other parts, as an audition. There’s no time scale for this process: you can take the time you need.

Once you become a full member, monthly subs are required in order to pay for our Musical Director and other occasional voice coaches, hall hire, insurance, sheet music, most of our stage wardrobe and membership to LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers).
